I have 2 adult females and 7 babies that just started laying eggs. Some of the young ones are males and I was wondering how old the males are when they are fertile.

next question is I have male roosters, I know they can cross breed but will they cross breed with male guinea's around?

I was thinking of letting the female sit on the eggs and seeing if we can hatch some this year. If not I will wait till next year when I can get an incubator. Any help would be great. Thank you

Nice website. I love the breed and have a 13 1/2 YO female that is just plain family and we love her dearly. Soon we will need a pup to take her place, but that`s hard to come to grips with.

As to your question, I`m probably no where near as qualified to answer as some of the veteran owners here, but I have had guineas for about 5 years, although for most of that time I have only had cocks.

I have read that guinea/chicken crosses are rare and usually are intentional on the part of the owner. Leads me to believe that your hens are safe. I would think that any males you have that are the same age as the females that have just started laying, would be able to fertilize the eggs. Seems to work like that.

I have heard of guinea hens starting a second clutch during a season, only to stop laying and abandon the idea of brooding as the weather changed. Good luck with yours. Perhaps a broody chicken could fill the gap if you get enough eggs and the guinea hen gives up.

Hope some others here can offer better info........Pop

Thank you, I marked the eggs today and I am going to leave them and see what we get. We have so many chickens I don't need to Guinea eggs right now so maybe we will get lucky!
