i read that there is a breeding season ending around may. now i was thinking maybe thats true in the wild where they are not in contact with a hen all the time. will my ringnecks continue to breed past the normal breeding season?
I pull my eggs to incubate them and my ringnecks laid well into July last year. I'm not sure the fertility of the last couple of weeks as I didn't try to hatch them.
I've heard that a male breeds the hen and may not see her again until next year, but the eggs are fertile for the season.I don't know what truth there is to it,but it maybe possible.I've had ringnecks in the past that laid into August.Maybe it depends on the climate also.
Do you let any of your hens set on their eggs?
In N.H.,Tony.
yes i do let them lay. i have 3 hens. one of them is broody. i remove a few every week cuz she cant sit on all of them i get 3 eggs a day so my nest are always full.
