Probably a silly question but I’m just really not sure…
The only roosters I have are silkies. 2 actually. And then I have 18 regular hens. The boys are getting the job done bc the eggs are fertilized. :)
Is it ok to have my broody hen hatch the eggs? Will the babies be healthy?
Thank you😊

They are all chickens so it doesn't really matter. They will just be strange looking (in my mind). People cross silkies with other breeds all the time.

Yes, Silkies are also Gallus Gallus Domesticus, like other chickens. As long as the rooster and the hen are healthy and the hen broods them like normal, the hatching chicks should be healthy. It's always best to be prepared for possible issues if your hen hasn't ever brooded a clutch before. It's not very common but sometimes things can happen.

Thank you so much! 😊😊
