I have a flock of domestic Eastern Wild turkey's. Right now I have 3 hens that are breeding age and one Jake who is mating with them. The hens are from different parents unrelated to the Jake as far as I know from the information I was given by the person I bought them from.
When their babies hatch (one did hatch last night) I am wondering how closely related they can be to their parents or siblings for breeding purposes?

You said these are EW Turkeys?

Are the parents first generation domesticated? In other words were they born in the wild?
I do not believe the parents of my adult turkeys were born in the wild and that would mean that the parents to my new poult were domestic also. Was not sure whose parent you were talking about so I answered for both this poult and my adult turkey flock. The lady I bought them from said she did a lot of research to get her flock of 6 hens and one jake so that they were from different flocks and different people were raising at least 2 of the hens and the jake. Hope this is what you were asking. I can contact the one I bought them from if that would help.

Quote: That's what they always say... ;)

If they are indeed unrelated and there's a good diverse gene pool in their recent ancestry then the first cross is fine. Beyond that it's generally a good rule to start munching.
