Was cruising through Craigs list and see ad for brewers grains. Can this be fed to chickens? Would assume if it could it would be more of a treat?? My chicks arrive in Aug this year so have been building a coop and reading a lot here to be ready. Will have 15 birds and they sell it in 55 gal drums. Not sure how long this would last that many birds either.

Yes you can can't believe anyone hasn't answered I actually got some a week ago from a guy on a chicken group in my town. but You have to freeze it since it dosnt last long, you just have to make sure to serve in a moderation it will last a long time if you give them probably 5 cups a day or less depending on what they eat as a regular diet.

Is this spent grain from brewing? If so, it would probably be wet and would start to rot soon. I often give our chickens some spent grain when I brew and they like it. Though the grain is called spent for a reason. The starch has been converted to sugar and rinsed away. All that is left is the husk and a bit of sugar and I don't think you want to give much to them or very often.

Agreed.

The nutritional value will not support the minimum requirements your birds need to maintain good health.

Fine for a treat, but don't let it upset their dietary needs.
