Our runner ducklings are hatching and I have a question about brewers yeast and feeding ducklings/ducks.

It's my understanding that I can feed the ducklings non-medicated chick crumb with brewers yeast added. First question is how much yeast should I add? This would be for 3 weeks.

Second question, am I correct in thinking they then move onto chicken growers with added yeast. Again if so how much? We can't source duck specific growers but I'm not certain what the process for this part.

When they move to layers, can this be poultry layers and will they still need yeast? We can get duck layer feed but it would be easier if everyone ate the same.

Oh and with chicks and chickens the food is out all the time but it seems that with ducks I should feed them a set amount per day. How do I know how much to feed them daily?

Its very confusing!

Thank you for your help everyone!

I keep food out during daylight hrs for my Runners, Buffs and Muscovy. I feel egg layers need the extra nutrients. Also, some Oyster shells put in to a container close to where their feed is the females will eat it as they need it. I use chicken feed for my birds since I also have chickens and use the nutritional yeast on the feed like @3bird mentioned. I start my birds on layer when they get around 4-4.5months old.

Thanks, we haven't been able to source waterfowl starter. One delivery was August but the ducklings are coming home in a day or two. I should say the brewers yeast is an animal feed additive from a pet supplier.

They will be fine on chicken stater just be sure to add Nutritional yeast or brewers yeast. to their feed they need the extra niacin that chicken feed doesn't have. How much niacin is in the brewers yeast?

and the main reason we use niacin supplements

Thank you for this I wish I'd asked the question before I bought the yeast! 🫣

I am looking at this one now, do you think this is suitable.

As a random aside my daughter has an almost veggie diet due to texture issues she is a funny eater and lacks b12. She has tablet form supplements but this might work better!

I forgot to say thank you for the links they were very interesting.
