My 5 year old orphy is now passing bright green poop, going on a week in quarantine with grain mash and a short treatment of antibiotic.. her decline started over two weeks ago.
Symptoms:
Soft, Enlarged crop (a little smaller then a baseball)
Watery brown/yellow diarrhea (first week)
Pale comb
Lethargy
Thirst
Vent is covered in green poo
Other than that all other appearances are normal. I have ruled out E. Coli given the number of symptoms she does not have and the duration of time she has been sick.
….. she is eating some and drinking water, but the green indicates bile and originally I was directed here to treat for a reproductive infection- but now I’m wondering if this could be impacted crop. I’d be grateful for your best tutorials on how to safely vacate the crop, I’ve looked at some videos but am so afraid to cause her more suffering.
I’ve attached a photo of green poop for reference.

The green is bile, from not eating, have you attempted to treat sour crop?
Hello, as I mentioned she has been eating. I haven’t treated for sour crop yet as there is no brown liquid or foul smell coming from her mouth. But I will start that protocol today, do you recommend a 24 hour fasting period before giving apple cider vinegar solution?

I don't recommend fasting or acv (or anytime) until the issue is figured out, It sounds like a slow or partially blocked crop as you've suspected.

You received good advice on your other thread.

It would be reasonable to assume that her crop/digestive system is not functioning as well as it should due to an underlying condition. Often there are multiple symptoms that accompany illness, so those symptoms need to be addressed.

It's not uncommon for a hen's crop to not work well when they have reproductive disorders. So if she were mine, I'd treat the crop as sour. https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...w-to-know-which-one-youre-dealing-with.73607/

What is Grain Mash? Is this a complete poultry feed or?

If possible, get a fecal float to see if she needs to be dewormed as well.

That color of poop can be from not eating well, but I've seen that with hens that had reproductive disorders (Cancer and EYP).

Sometimes medication (antibiotics) may help alleviate some symptoms for a period of time. Fluid in the abdomen can be drained if necessary. Symptoms like a crop not emptying can be addressed and treatment attempted. Controlling parasites both internal and external can be done - all of these things should be considered as part of supportive care, keeping the hen comfortable and giving her a fair quality of life. Once these measures are exhausted and the hen doesn't make improvements or continues to decline, then it may be time to consider putting them out of their misery.
