I sent in this question to Brinsea today, but since it will probably take them days to get back to me and because I value BYC-ers opinions, I'd love to hear of others' experiences with the Brinsea 20.

This is my first Brinsea. My new Brinsea 20 Advance has been holding a steady temp of 99.6 (37.5) per the digital readout. But when I use my Thermapen to check the temp, it reads 98.8 (37.1) just below the top of the dividing bars (egg level) which is as far as the Thermapen will reach through the venting hole. It does read 99.6 closer to the top where the clear plastic vents are. I've double-checked my Thermapen and it reading spot on.

Should I be concerned about the slightly low reading and should I program the temperature slightly higher to compensate? I haven't set my eggs yet but now I'm nervous.

My 20 adv. Was off when checking with spot check.

Adjusted temp to 100.6 on bator had a perfect 28 day hatch.

.7 degree probably won't matter. If it make you feel better adjust temp up slightly.

Thank you for your thoughts. I still haven't heard back from Brinsea to get their 2 cents.
I've been hemming about adjusting it. I don't want it too cool but know too warm is the worst of the two evils.

I am going to meet in the middle and adjust it about .4 and check at egg level again, figuring that should be "close enough" - at least I hope so. Since the discrepancy is so small I am hoping it is not enough to create development problems.

After you set the eggs give them plenty of time to get warm before you check again.

Until temps temps equalize it can effect ambient temp.
