Hey everyone. I love my homemade bator but want something with an autoturner.....I was thinking about getting the Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco Autoturn Incubator. Anyone have any experience with this? thanks in advance..
The Brinsea is a very nice incubator. It holds the temperature well and I've found it straightforward to work with. I think it's also sporty to look at.
I have the brinsea 20 with auto humidity. The good hatch rates but high humidity during hatch is a problem. To get the humidity high enough, I acutally have water dripping on the eggs and into the bottom. So I use it for incubating and an old styrofoam for hatching or my R-com. I am going to try using my sportman cabinet for incubating this year and use the Brinsea as a backup. Anyway... great incubating... not so happy with humidity during the hatch.. also no room for hatching chicks to move.... at all!!
We had the Brinsea octagon 10 and it was terrible held temp fine but every chick failed some halfway through zipping, a friend however has the 20 and says it`s really good but needs a stable environment, he had it in a barn and it was great but in his house it didn`t do too well
I love it, my only complaint would be it's too crowded during hatching if the bator is full. Otherwise its easy to turn, easy to keep a steady humidity, easy to keep a stable temp (once you've played with it and gotten it right).
I'm having problems with the temp to keep it just at 37.5 C ( 101.3 F it's in English I believe). I finally got the temp and the humidity right, put 8 bantam eggs in it today and startet having the same problems again. The temp I'm trying to get steady but now my humidity went back to about 30
. I put some water in it and blocked one vent to increase the humidity.
This is my second time trying, the first time was about 3 years ago only one egg developt but unfortunaly the chick never made it to hatch it died a day before hatching. If this incubation won't give any hatching I going to sell it and look out for something else.
San thats the same problem we had with the Brinsea, maybe the 10 is not good but others are ok. So i have made my own and it works very well hatching now. I have friends in Holland near Enindhoven and just outside Herleen, you have a beautiful country
I use mine for days 1-18 and then my hovabator for lockdown... I find it holds temps well and you just need to keep the one troph filled with water to keep it at the right humidity until lockdown and then add water to the second troph and maybe a wet sponge if needed... I've had 100% hatch rate so far using it on my fresh eggs... It works great and I use it in my laundry room which is between 65-75 degrees everyday... Goodluck....
