So I want to Hatch my own eggs and with the cost of the eggs I wanted I had to insure that I was successful. The only choice for me was to bite the bullet and go with a Ovation EX model that would maintain a consistent heat, humidity level and auto turn the eggs. I had the Ovation running for a few weeks so that I could monitor how well it worked before I ordered any eggs. The Brinsea was fairly easy to setup and adjust (there are some good videos on YouTube)
My Egg of choice was Westfalisch Totleger (DeathLayer) which I got 6 eggs off of eBay. (I would have preferred to get a dozen or more but at the time not many were offering them. I had them shipped to the Post Office across the street from where I work. I monitored the shipping reports and picked them up the moment after they opened the doors.
I let the eggs rest for 24hrs and put them in the following morning at 6am. On day 7 I candled them and found 2 of the six were not fertile
and what appeared to be very detached air sack on the rest? On day 14 I checked again and saw movement in thee of them and nothing in the 4th. I took them out of turner and locked them down on the 18th day and increased the humidity from 45 to 65.
When I got home from work on the 20th day I went in to check the heat and humidity level and much to my surprise there were three new babies that decided to show up a day early. Bummer, I really wanted to see them pip and work their way out. I left them in there without opening the Brisea until I got home the following day before moving them to a brooder. I should add that I purchased a 55gal tub to move them into when they get a little bigger
Here is a link of them soon afterwards of moving them to the brooder.
So here is to hoping that they are not all Rosters?
Thanks to this forum for all the info that helped this hatching be a success.
