We have 2 bators running at present a Brinsea octagon 10 and one I made myself using a coolbox..... so far every egg has failed to hatch successfully in the brinsea all but 3 fertile eggs failed to reach lockdown and last night 2 pipped and started to zip this morning both are dead leaving just one left

these eggs were from 2 different sources and are also 2 different breeds. In the homemade bator so far we have 100% hatch rate with eggs from the same places.
So the Brinsea chick murderer is going in the bin.
RIP cookoo silkies and Lincolnshire buffs

I'm sorry you had such bad luck with your Brinsea, but your results are far from typical. I've personally used two different models and had great hatches (and I know very, very little about hatching), and others on here have had great experiences, as well. Did you have problems with temp, or humidity? Any idea of what went wrong?

The temperature has been good all the time the humidity has been difficult to measure due to the small size of the Brinsea but it seemed ok too. Both bators are in the living room and are next to eachother , last year we borrowed a Corti bator from a friend and had fantastic results ie 100% placement and hatch of Light Sussex and 80% with silkie eggs (all posted eggs) and that was in October. So we expected a reasonable result, I have just checked the last egg and it too has died after zipping, I have pulled the chick out of the egg to check if it had got stuck and it came out easy. There can`t be a problem with the eggs as the others from the same batch have all hatched without problems in our own made one.

I wouldn`t wish it on any one lol. It will be sent back for a full refund as it`s obviously faulty some how. I will work on home made bator mk2 Just waiting for the power transformer to arrive.
