Broad daylight and only feathers left behind

I live in Northern California and my girls free range in a 6 foot high double fenced yard. This afternoon I came home to find my sweet Silver laced Wynadotte missing. The only thing left behind were feathers. Some were in the run and some just outside there run. No blood or body parts. My young rooster was out of the run as well. I don't know if maybe he was trying to protect her. My thought is she was taken by a hawk. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I also am curious if a hawk or other bird will keep coming back to pick my ladies off one by one. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Very sorry for your loss. My experience says it was a fox or bobcat. Both of these can jump a 6' high fence. I used to lose chickens this way, and it was a bobcat. My losses stopped three years when I got an electric net fence. While the fence is only 4' high, the predators stay away.

There is no chance a animal is going to jump back over and not leave a feather ..have to walk the whole fence and check for feathers..and holes under fence no holes or feathers ..then birds of pray.

Thanks! I didn't think bobcat but that makes sense. I will have to look into the electric fence.
