I have a small flock of 6 buff orpington hens and every hen has very raw looking feathers on their backs. No rooster so this isn't a mating issue. What causes this? Are the hens all bullying each other? I never see this activity going on but I'm not sure what is going on inside the coop at night or in the morning before I open the coop door.

It doesn't seem to be a problem. All the hens are scratching normally. I've reduced their run down since I'm in Michigan and they don't like walking in the snow so I've given them a 6'x6' area that is constantly snow-free for them to scratch around in. I do have a light on a timer inside the coop for extending their "daylight" hours since it gets so bleak and dreary here in the winter sometimes.

One hen is particularly aggressive. I don't know if she's even laying eggs or not and I've kind of wondered if she is bullying the other hens. She'll routinely peck my hand (drawing blood sometimes). But she has missing back feathers too so the other hens would be getting back at her. I'm at a loss for why all the hens have really raw looking back feathers.

Do you have photos?

Very likely feather picking, boredom and lack of space since they are not getting out much.
