I have a 5 year old hen that broke the tip of her upper beak this summer. She has been eating good and keeping her weight up. It seems to be growing back ok. But I just noticed this thin flaky type growth on both sides of her beak. Does anyone know if I should trim that off?

Since it's flaky, there's no harm in removing that with perhaps a nail clipper or a wire cutter/dikes sidecutter.

That's great she's growing it back and was able to compensate for it.

Agreed, it will be safe to trim it up. It won't hurt to help her keep it properly shaped as it's growing back.
