Broken Eggs in Nest

I've got 4 ducks, all female, 1 mallard, and 3 Pekin/blue swiss hybrids. The hybrids have been laying every day. If I don't collect the eggs daily or more frequently, there will inevitably be a broken egg in the nest. The shells are plenty hard, they free-range 24/7. They all get along all day with each other and the chickens. Why would there be a broken egg in the nest?
