My son’s dog got one of our guineas. And its leg is very broken. I’m not sure if there’s anything else wrong with it. Because it’s so timid. But it was completely in the cornfield away from all of its friends.
Advice??

Oh no😞
My dog did something similar to one of my girls. Thankfully she didn’t have any broken bones. She was tore up and plucked really bad. My thread “lucky Lucy” shows the damage and her ongoing recovery.

I’m not positive, but can you maybe set the leg, splint, and wrap it?
A vet would be best, but I do understand not everyone can/will take poultry to the vet. If it’s really bad and has other injuries putting it down might be your only option:/

Do you have any pictures?

Ok. Well I put a splint on it and then my hubby came home and said, honey I think that’s a dislocated not broken.

what in the world?

there is no blood and there’s nothing that the pictures going to show. Basically the leg is hanging at the joint.

sigh

"Don't grab a guinea by it's leg or it will twist to get away and break it." Is that just for keets or adults as well? May be a silly question, but if they break as easily as I've been told then odds are it's broke. Not sure there's much you can do beyond splint and confine unless you have an aviary vet near by you're willing to pay.

Yes adult guineas have fragile legs too. This is why it is not recommended to grab guineas by their legs.
