Hi this morning I went out to feed the chickens and only saw two guineas out of 3. The neighbor came over and said that she was stuck in their fence and broke her leg...... So I took her inside and splinted it and wrapped it up tight..... She is now in a confinement pen and hopefully will get better. She has food and water and nice bedding..... My question is if it is broken at the joint how long do you think it will take to heal or at least for me to take the wrap off? She seems to be fine and also is it ok to give her a little bit of Tylenol or ibuprofen?

I had a rooster RIR that broke his leg in one of the nesting box bars. I splinted it and kept him in a some what small plastic tub food water. I had to give him a bath every couple days as he couldn't or wouldn't stand to poop for about the first week.....anyway! He stayed in the tub around 2 1/2-3 weeks when he flew out one day and started hobbling putting weight on it again. After that I took the wrap off and he still had a limp but after around the 4th week he was almost back to his normal self. I actually waited til the 5 th week to add him back to our flock though due to him being weak and didn't want him to break it again. Good luck!

The leg was completely off. It broke at the joint and was just hanging there. I doubt it will go back together but hopefully she lives.....

No, you should never give Tylenol or ibuprofen to poultry, but you can give aspirin. The dose is 1 regular aspirin tablet (325 mg.) dissolved in 1 gallon of water and offered free choice for the duration of the illness/injury. Hope it helps. I would check the break often and rewrap as necessary. I would think it would swell up, so it's important to make sure that the "cast" isn't wrapped too tight.
