My pullet somehow broke her toe. A chicken foot looks kinda like a W. The outer left toe was broke high up so that the whole toe close the v shape on that side of the foot. She has been kept in a xlarge dog crate to heal up (she also had another injury that the other hens were pecking at......) And since she has been caged up, the toe is now in the proper position (W) but where it was broke is swollen pretty good. And now- it has a sore on it. Any suggestions as to what I can do to help it heal up?? Her poor little body is going through alot of healing right now and I hope she recovers soon. She has been in the crate for 2.5 weeks now....
Update: We were starting to think that it is bumblefoot. My first experience with it. Not sure- but we soaked her foot in warm water and epsom salt and then carved at it, removing the scab and looking for the "kernel" of nastiness. There was nothing that we could see to pull out. Not sure what to do now.... still really swollen. Please any suggestions would be great!
