I work at a feed store and we received a day old chick with a broken wing (she is now about a week old). The guys set it back for me b/c I nurse most of the sick ones that we get back to health, but I have never nursed with a broken wing before.

Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated. If it would be better to cull her let me know that. I can get the guys to do it at work, once she is home with me there is no way.

I can post a picture later on tonight if that would help.

Thanks so much!

If the wing is not impeding her mobility, she can live a full life with this 'disability'. If the wing is an impediment, I would be tempted to remove it at the 'elbow' joint as in pinioning.

UPDATE: The bones are not broken. It seems as though the shoulder joint has been dislocated. She cannot move the wing and it twists as if just hanging by skin. Right now it is immobilized but I dont see how this will help her in the long run. Can I remove the entire wing?

She can survive quite well without her wing. I would suggest having it removed by a vet or someone experienced in such a procedure.
