Advice please, I'm supposed to look at bantam polish hen, around 11 mo. But found last summer flock had bronchitis/cold, they treated with antibiotics thru veterinarian, has been fine since, from what I've read she would be a carrier? So I'm not so sure I should purchase her and chance anything in my small flock that has never been sick, would it be better to wait for them to hatch this year's chicks and purchase one of those? I don't believe it can be passed on thru egg 6 months after treatment. Advice on this greatly appreciated

Infectious bronchitis, is a virus, and therefore is not affected by antibiotics - unless they had testing done by their state lab to confirm it was IB (Infectious bronchitis), it's possible they were dealing with something else such as MG (mycoplasma gallisepticum), which from a symptomatic standpoint can look similar to IB, and is more severe in the fact that birds are carriers for life. With IB, birds generally only are carriers of the virus for up to one year.

If you have a flock of your own, I would suggest against buying any birds from the breeder given their history. A much safer alternative would be to buy from a reputable hatchery in your area.

I would not take the bird. Unless the chicken was tested, it would be hard to know if it was MG which makes them carriers dor life, or infectious bronchitis, which can make them carriers for up to a year after recovery. If you bring her in, you are risking that your healthy birds will get sick. I only get baby chicks from a hatchery, or perhaps a feed store at a few days old. Getting birds who are started and have lived at another farm, there is always a chance that the birds could be carriers of something.

Antibiotics don’t work on a virus.... for the sake of your current flock, I would stay away. They probably had something more serious than just infectious bronchitis if they put them on antibiotics; and if they don’t know what they’re doing or talking about you should move on. Just my opinion.

Thank you everyone, I'm going to call and cancel as long as I've waited, wanted one of these it's not worth the risk, I only wanted started because I can't have rooster, and bantam polish very young pullet is hard to find here so far. I love my girls they are pets so I won't put them at risk. Thank you for great advice! Much appreciated.
