Brooder cover question

At what point will I need a cover over my watermelon box brooder? They are 10 days old now.

within the next few days with some sort of wiring unless you are okay with them getting out

A ways back, someone posted they cover their brooder box with furnace filters - I thought this was brilliant! It keeps the birds in and the dust down.

Last time I brooded birds in the house there was 1" of dust on everything in the room at the end of the 6 weeks - I had to promise my husband I'd never brood chicks in the house again!

Ours are in the garage. I have window screen to cover the top.
