Brooder inside coop

I am planning on having a brooder on top of my nesting box and was wondering if the red light will bother my adult flock?

I don't think the red lamp will bother the adults. My concern would be that it would make the coop too hot. Chicks need heat, but adults will pant and are uncomfortable with heat...So just do a check and see how warm/hot the lamp makes the coop.

You are right, I will make two big windows for the air to circulate instead of the little ones I have right now. Thanks for your advice.

I use regular 100 watt light bulbs with a reflector suspended in my brooders, much cheaper to operate, and does not over heat the coop. You do not need to have the entire brooder the same temp., as long as they have a spot they can get to to warm up they are fine. Chicks with a hen do not spend their entire day under her, just when they need to warm up.

This is the brooder in the coop, each level has a light at each end. The reflector is mounted on a chain so can be adjusted, they are all the way up in photo. When all the way down they are still high enough not to be a fire hazard.

And here is the one in the basement, variations on the same design. The lights here are not adjustable, just use this one for the first 14 days, till the Marek's vaccine kicks in, and then out to coop.

Nice thank you for the pictures. I will post a picture sunday when it will be done... it is just going to be a little single brooder but I am excited to have it done.

Wow those are neat looking brooders. We had ours in a large rubbermaid bin with hardware cloth top and the light did not bother the adults at all.
