I have this large pet playpen I'm planning on using for a brooder. I'm debating where in the house to put it. We have this unheated entry way off the living room by our front door that we never use. Would that be okay for them? We could leave the door to the living room open for some airflow. I'm in northern ohio so the temp in that space will vary between being quite cool at night and getting warm with the afternoon sun. I'm using the Mmama heating pad for the warmer.

The basement is another option but we have a cat so I'm just a little concerned with that.

I'd put them in the unheated entry and leave a window in there open and the door to the living room closed.
You will need a screen to put over the brooder by the time they are 2 weeks old or they will be flying out of there.

I chose to have them in the house because adjusting the lamps to keep the temp consistent here in Missouri would be such a pain. I keep the house pretty consistently 67 to 74 right now as it hasn’t been too warm yet. It’s been okay to maintain but will get a little warm at times. I also put hardware cloth over the top to keep them in and the pets out. My cat isn't really interested and I don't leave the dogs out unattended. I also wanted them quite used to us so having them around all the time helps with that.

That's my thought to I want to have the kids used to them and them used to the kids.

My cat is obsessed with the birds at the feeders so I just dont want her getting any ideas.
