I have 2 chicks about 1- days old..
we had been keeping them in a cardboard box with heat lamp and temp remained around 95
A family in my class build them a new cage... very cute
all sides have chicken wire- i have the heat lamp on one side where it keeping a temp of about 90
the other side(food/water) seems to get a bit colder mroe like 80-85
Any suggestions on how to make it a more even temp? OR are they oak with one side warm and the other a but cooler?
I am very new at this, so any advice would help

Thanks

PS
they do seem to like it more under the light...

i found that my young ones like it around 80-85 and i have 1-3 weeks olds and 2 5 week olds banties that are small that for some reason prefer to stay with the little girls i had them in with the big girls and i think they had to "fight" to much for food and water and the little ones like my silkies and banty chicks love to cuddle with the bigger ones

I'm new too, but from what I've gathered here and from watching my own chicks, it's actually a good thing to have cooler and warmer areas in the brooder. Then the chicks can choose where to go. If it's a wire side though you do need to watch for drafts. Might be a good idea to put cardboard or something around the bottoms.
