My little flock of 11 chicks is now 10 days old and in a Rubbermaid brooder. We have a 100 watt lamp over them and are having a hard time getting the temp above about 80. The light is about as low as it can safely be. The chicks seem just fine. Once in a while they do huddle up, but that seems to be mostly when they are sleeping. Most of the time they are running all over the brooder. Should I get them one of those red heat lamps? Or can I trust their by their behavior that they're okay?

If they are moving around freely then I would not worry, even if that temperature sounds low. My chicks huddle up when sleeping too.
