I have two week old baby chicks and I read to decrease the temperature by 5 degrees each week until it reaches around 75 degrees. What is the best way to do this if I cannot physically raise the heat lamp? There is only one spot where I can hang it and I cannot raise it. Should I use a lower wattage bulb or do something else? Thanks.

I used a thermoregulator that I plugged into my heat lamp and then the heat lamp to the wall. The temp probe should sit about the height the chics stand in the brooder where your heat lamp is. This controls the heat lamp temperature so you do not have to adjust height or bulb. I just checked it every day to make sure it stayed what I set it on. I used one that had a flap cover over the settings area so no accidental touching could change the temperature.

Are you using a heat lamp (sold at the feed stores) or a regular light bulb?
I never used a heat lamp, instead a regular light bulb (40 or 60 watt) in a "trouble light" which I could raise. Then read about MHP (by Blooie) and no longer use a light. I see a difference with the chicks (+) & they can be brooded outdoors :)
