Brooding but no eggs

One of our chickens has taken to brooding, but there are no eggs. She just wants to sit on an empty nest all day. We have two hens and both just started laying in May and we've been collecting the eggs regularly. Now neither one is laying and one wants to brood all the time. Is there something we can do? How long will this last? Thanks!

First off, welcome to BYC!

Second, there's no telling how long a broody will stay broody. Some eventually snap out of it and some stay sitting to the bitter end. I finally just broke and sat my daughters Silkie on some eggs last night because she's been sitting on poo balls for over 4 wks. now!
