Hey guys! I had a thought ive been researching and researching and researching some more. I bounce frequently between topics of research. At this exact moment the topic on my brain is brooding pens and cages for the chicks. I wont be breeding chickens as roosters are not allowed in the city limits (although for about 3 years after getting our house you could hear a rooster crowing lolz and it was close by) but eventually i will probably be hatching eggs and raising the babies.

The thought i just had was using something i already have. I have the MidWest Pets guinea habitat which has a divider and water proof bottom liner. Would this be something i could set up as a brooder for chicks use the divider (also happens to have a gate) to grow out 2 different groups of chicks, ex. 2 different breeds.

Obviously this would be once im able to do so. I prefer to have all of my materials on hand before getting animals, i did this method with most of my geckos and my fish (which im currently doing again in preparation to have fish again) and it works quite well. It takes time of course but it guarantees that by the time whatever animal i am after arrives everything is prepared and ready for them to settle in.

Do you have photos of the enclosure? It sounds like it would be fine. I start mine out in a large Rubbermaid then move them into an extra large dog crate before going outside.

you could use it initially, but may need to cover it at some point (baby quail are jumping out of the brooder at a week!). I like a plastic tote for the first week or two (no drafts!) but move to a rabbit/Guinea pig cage thing as they get older (it is a modular thing with panels you can rearrange, solid floor, mesh on top and sides). The tote gets too small, fast!

I dont at present moment because its put away and gathering dust, i originally bought for a dwarf rabbit but that fell by the way side. Without the divider it gives 8 square feet of space to roam

It would be for chickens and it came with a wire cover so that wont be an issue
