broody austrolorp

If she gets any eggs under her, take them away. Move her off the nest. When one of my EEs was broody I would pick her up and carry her around a lot, and it made her give up on hatching eggs. The other girls would lay and she would roll the eggs across the coop and sit on them, so I took them away from her. It took maybe 3 days or so to break her out of it. Try that and if it doesn't work there are some other things you can do like putting ice cubes in her nest. Doing things like that to cool their bottom is supposed to make them stop being broody.

I have an Australorp that is hard core broody. Screams and puffs up like a big black basketball when any chicken or person comes near her. It takes about a week to break her. I have a large wire dog kennel that I set up in the run with food and water and a perch. She stays in there during the day and at night I put her on the roost with the others.

I also have an Orpington that has gone broody twice in 2 yrs. With her I just dunk her butt in some cool water 2 or 3 times and keep the eggs out of the boxes and she's over it in a couple days. The cold water doesn't faze the Australorp.

I keep moving this hen. She has been sitting on nothing. As a matter of fact none of my hens are laying eggs. Dont know whats up with that. Took one broody out of the group 2 weeks ago to sit on some eggs I ordered so maybe the others ae on strike.

I read some where they said to put her in a cage that has a wire bottom so she could get air on her bottom. She's to stay there for a few days and then they try putting her back in with the others and see how she does and she goes back if she is still wanting to be broody.
