What's your favorite broody breed?

I've heard plenty about Silkies and bantams, but wonder what you BYC-ers like. I've never hatched from a broody before, but had a gorgeous mixed bantam go nutsy broody over a bunch of infertile eggs (no rooster near her in months). Very impressive behaviour, that wannabe mommy!

I have two super broodies, both standards. I don't have any bantams, nor do I have a rooster. I'd

to have a rooster, but I live in a development. My neighbors love my girls, but I'm taking NO chances on having to get rid of my "ladies'!
Anyway, Cleo, my Black Cochin, is my best broody, followed by Henrietta, my BO. Once in a while Betty Barnevelder goes broody, but it doesn't last very long. Cleo is VERY STUBBORN.

When she wants to be broody, there's no stopping her!

I am overrun by broodies. Right now, no less than 6 of my hens are broody. Without fail, my gamebird/americauna mutts are the best broodies. I have broody cochins, polish, crevecouers, orpington - but they are not as good "all around" broodies as the mutt.

Hello,
All 5 of our silkie pullets that we born at the same time are going broody like crazy. We have to push them off the eggs. The other 2 pullets are younger and havent started getting broody yet. We also have a Mille fluer and an oegb hen and they arent broody. Hope this helps.

My Buff Duck LOL

We didn't even know she was old enough to start laying when we found her sitting on her first cluth, now she's not quite a year old yet and she is now setting I believe her third clutch and they are due next weekend. I have another older one that is broody all the time too.

I have a Golden-laced Wyandotte (hatchery-bred) who is setting for the second time. She sat for the first time when she was just barely six months old.

I also have two EE hens who went broody last summer and hatched out some chicks that had Silkie father (s); I've saved all six of the pullets from that hatch, and their two brothers, and will see what happens with them. They are just six and a half months old now (late August hatch).
