Hi,

my Buttons are currently raising nine chicks. They should be two weeks old next Wednesday. Today I found my male in the corner of the back of the cage making strange noises and the female answered. He got up and there is an egg! She is now sitting on it and building a nest! Is that normal? After two weeks? I am worried that she won't be taking care of her current chicks anymore, or become aggressive towards them. Has anyone experienced this before? I can't take the babies outl. They won't stop crying for mom.

Thank you for your help!

Edit: just witnessed a chick sitting on the egg, rolling it around and building a nest. Is this like school for button quail? 😂

With buttons your lucky if you get this far lol shana got tired of hers too and just didn't want them all over her all the time but I sold them pretty fast, you might have to raise them, but long as they aren't being aggressive at all it should be fine but, if they go near her nesting and being broody ? What's gonna happen, could always just take the new eggs away

Great idea! I left the egg in there for training purposes but going to take it out soon. I already installed a heat lamp after your advice. They just don't fit under her anymore lol. She started to look like a giant tumor with legs and heads. The parents are still feeding them bugs and stuff and they all cuddle up at night. I just don't want her to go broody right now.
