Hello, We have raised chickens for about 8 years for eggs. We only have 8 chickens right now, 4 buff orpingtons and 4 barred rocks. One of our orpingtons has gone broody -- and without a rooster, that was a bit sad. A friend graciously gave me 12 eggs (that we hope some are fertile) - 3 black copper marans, 3 Ameraucana and 6 olive eggers. I joined the group because I wanted to raise the chicks with the flock since the girls have lots of space, free range, and are polite to each other (We're in NC and friends have hens that raised chicks this time of year without weather problems). I've been reading through this site, and then got interested in more info -- feed, health, first aid kits, and on -- and then I found myself wanting to post. It looks like I'm on the slippery slope to a barn full of feathered lovelies. I found this site through a google search of broody hens. Mary (aka Oxytrema because Mary was already taken )
