Hi! One of my chickens went Broody over the weekend. I am pretty new to this and flying by the seat of my pants but up for the challenge! I live in va everyone is in the coop and leaving my broody alone has access to food and water. The temps here should be fine for hatching but should I move them to the garage with mom after they are here!!! Crossing my fingers that everything goes fine until that point!!! I don’t have an incubator so that isn’t an option! Thanks! I will take any advice!!!

@Kimmie9663, you are doing wonderful, sounds like you have everything under control!:thumbsup Are any of the other hens mean or try to pick on her?
Most of the time the mommas will protect their babies well, or at least ours do, but we keep the mom and newly hatched chicks in a dog kennel, just until they are feathered and big enough to handle the cold.

Thanks!!! No one is picking on her! I only have one other chicken and rooster her age. The others are still teenagers haha!!! Thank for the advice!

Is she in a ground nest?
I would not move her when the chicks hatch. She will raise them in the flock.
If you are not already doing so, I would switch the feed over to All Flock or Flock Raiser with oyster shell in a separate container for any active layers.
Your broody will be particularly intolerant of the teenagers getting anywhere near her chicks. I hope your setup has lots of space.

Thank you! We have plenty of space just want to do what is best for momma hen! Her box is about 11 in off the ground! Do you think that is a problem? Thanks for the advice on food!!! All is super appreciated!

Her nest box being 11" off the ground is not a problem until after her chicks hatch. The newborn chicks wont be able to get back into a raised nestbox, so u will need to have something at ground level until the chicks grow enough wing feathers to fly.
