My Blue bantam cochin went broody a little while ago, they should hatch in a week she's sitting on Runner duck eggs and we added some chicken eggs about a week later so they'd all hatch at the same time. everything was going good until my female pekin decided to get in on the fun, after a few funny incidents of the duck sitting on the hen, they've worked it out so they're sitting snuggled up together, the eggs are developing fine, but I'm worried about hatch time. is there any way to assure that ducklings go with duck and chicks with chicken? which broody would be easiest to move and set up separately with the appropriate eggs? any help would be appreciated.

Can you widen and divide the nest they are in so they are separated gradually into two sections? If one has hatched eggs before I would probably try to move her, if neither has, probably the hen, next which ever species you want hatchlings out of less. Unless you divide the eggs correctly, I don't think there is any way to be sure the right ones will go with the right mother.

I may try that. Or try to move the hen into another spot. I don't know if she's gone broody before, she was grown when I got her. I know the duck hasn't, I raised her from a baby.

I moved Nimue,my Cochin over a bit . She's got all the chicken eggs, worse case if Bianca, the pekin doesn't come back my runner has also gone broody I could give her eggs back if the ones she has in her nest aren't fertile. Which is possible

i'm just lucky Nimue is a very laid back girl, she's very devoted to the eggs, but rarely growls or pecks at me if I move her to candle the eggs. So it wasn't too tricky to move her.

well miss Bianca lost interest about the same time Isis my fayoumi decided she wanted to try out out this broody thing, so Nimue kept her original set of eggs and Isis got the second set of eggs that Nimue tried to add to her set . they're supposed to hatch on the 5th.Nimues ducks and chicks all hatched today and doing well.

Is it weird that Nimue my blue cochin when her and her chicks are settling down for the night if she sees anything egg shaped she pulls under her?
