can Golden Comets go broody? I thought not, however I believe mine is broody....

Yes any of the breeds that don't go broody supposedly, can go broody on you.
Not all chickens make good mamas though. So always watch a new mama hen if she isn't a proven mama. She may abandon the nest, abandon her chicks, attack them, not protect them from the rest of the flock, etc.
