What is wrong with these birds!! One of my pekin ducks has decided to start brooding. What am I going to do with her? These birds are not locked up, never have been. As far as I know, she's been setting about 3 days. That was the first day I noticed her 'missing'. Should I take them away when they hatch, or just move mama and babies to a pen somewhere? I should be able to do that, just put some wire around her when she is almost due, so I can catch her when the time comes. I would really rather not brood the ducklings myself, will she be okay with them if they can't get to the pond?

I don't think so, I didn't ask about the broody duck in the other one, just asked if anyone else had goofy birds this time of year. Why, are you the cross-posting police?

My sillt ducks brood all year round. f you dont want babies this late take the eggs.

You can always just fence her in if she is out in the open, Place a tarp over the enclsure if you can.

If you can put mama and babies somewhere where the cold wont be as effective on little ducklings toes I think they should be jsut fine with mama.
