For bantams I usually only put 3-6 eggs under them. You can tell she has too many if all of them aren’t covered by her body.

The tell tale signs of a broody are not leaving the nest box, pecking when being touched in the nest box, screaming or growling when you try to touch her and if she’s taken out of the nest box does she flatten out. Like a pancake. Instead of walking around she might go right back to sitting.

These are most of the ways I can tell when my girls go broody. They also make a noise when out of the nest box walking around. Not their everyday normal chicken noises. But instead it’s a small click that happens over and over. I have one girl I tried to break and she never stopped making this noise when she was out of the nest. It’s sometimes described as a ticking time bomb sound.
