Hello all, I have a Cochin that is a little under a year old and has gone broody for the first time. She set about 2 weeks ago and I bought some hatching eggs that unfortunately are coming later than I wanted due to the holiday weekend. If I was to put them under her tomorrow is it likely she would abandon them before they hatch?

I purchased 15 eggs and could do half in the incubator and put half under the broody hen but want to know the likelihood of success based on anyone more experienced

I have her in a separate brooder I built inside the coop with a door to put feed/water in and can move a section up as chicks grow to give them shelter from older hens when needed as they grow.

Would I be able to sneak the additional chicks from the incubator in with her clutch to have her raise them if I do half and half?

5 weeks is a bit long for a hen to remain broody. Give it a try, but be prepared to move the eggs to the incubator if she breaks broodiness. If she sets an additional 21 days and hatches the eggs, it will be easy to foster all chicks to her.
