My hen is on day 7 of brooding on 6 eggs, 2 Faverolles and 4 Vorwerk but already 2 Vorwerk have been broken.
The first egg was on day 4, I wasn't sure which hen did it, everything was gone including shell. So I seperated the broody hen completely from the others and when I checked this morning I found half a shell and so another egg broke!?
I don't know if it is on purpose or accident, she is a big hen and the eggs are not hers and the Vorwerk eggs are way smaller then her usual eggs, are they too fragile for her as the 2 big Faverolles eggs are still intact and bigger.
I also realized she kept taking all the straw underneath the eggs away and so they are on a wooden floor. Today I put a kitchentowel underneath the straw in the hope that they lay softer, not sure what else I can do??
Anyone been having this problem?
The hen is 2 years old and I have 3 hens in total . She is the only one that is broody every year and so this year I thought to get her some eggs to sit on in the hope that we would have some chicks but at this rate they will all be broken before hatching time.
All help is appreciated, I am located in France.
