We have Wyandotte hens. Hen A went broody so I put keet eggs under her. After a few weeks I noted hen B kicked hen A off the nest. Hen B hatched keets and we separated hen B and the keets in a separate coop. She’s been with them 3-4 weeks. Today I tried taking hen B from the keets and putting her back in with the other hens. Hen B kept picking fights…particularly with Hen A.

We had total harmony prior to broodiness. Is there anything I can do to stop this fighting? Does it have to do with broodiness?

For my broody, when I took chicks from her before she weened them I crated her within the run to essentially break her of being broody. Took a day or two. Broody jail is what we call is, dog crate elevated on blocks with food/water.

She may still have those hormones running through her and is trying to make certain her brood is safe --even if she doesn't have said brood.

Why did you separate her from the chicks?

I've always let the hen handle it unless she was a bad mom and then the chicks are raised and she walks away when the job is done.
