I have a broody hen who has been sitting on eggs for a week now. When I got her off the nest to eat, drink, etc. I noticed a funny smell (not bad per se, just unknown) and counted the eggs. One was missing, and there was egg goop on some of the other eggs. I found part of a shell, and some soiled straw. I assume that the broody are the rest in the contents. Do I clean off the soiled eggs? Most are clean, and I did pick off what I could, but I’m not sure if it’s more important to keep the eggs clean or not remove the bloom.

I think this is an animal husbandry style situation, without one 100% correct answer for everyone. I'm generally hands-off and would trust Mama to handle it, even if when a nest gets gross and stinky. Her clutch, her rules.
