Broody Hen eats one egg!

My broody hen has been sitting on 4 eggs for 1 1/2 weeks now. I went in this morning to check on the ehn house and feed everyone, and when the hen got off the nest to eat, I noticed 1/2 an egg shell. Why would she eat one of her eggs she's been setting?

Maybe one hatched out and the chick is somewhere??

That's weird...

No Chick in the nest! And she is by herself in seperate cage. The eggs are not ready to hatch yet.
