We're just nearing the end of our first year with chickens and this is our first experience with a broody hen (we just have layers, no roosters, so this poor girl is being a good little mama for nothing...) Our Welsummer turned broody at the end of last week and now (this started a couple days after she turned broody) when I kick her off the nest a couple times a day the other girls peck at her and she puffs out her feathers at them. Is this normal? Anything I need to do, or will they sort it out themselves/not really do any damage? Will they go back to normal once she's done being broody, or is she now the hen to be picked on?

Its normal and they will sort it out.

You might separate her from the others(after darkness has fallen)and give her a nest by herself and let her sit for awhile...then go to TSC and buy her a baby or two to slip under her(again, under cover of darkness)so she can raise herself a family.
