I have a broody hen sitting on 4 fertile eggs. We are on day 19. I’m keeping her with my flock (5 other hens). What should I expect when they hatch? I just noticed she has a couple stolen unfetilized eggs under her too that I’m going to take from her (I’ve had to this this every few days). Will she keep sitting until all her eggs hatch? Will she stay in the coop with her babies for a while or will she automatically take them outside into the run? I was thinking about putting up some chicken wire to keep my other hens away from the babies for a few days just incase, but I don’t want to force my momma and chicks to stay inside the coop if she wants to go out. Poor things been stuck in there for so long already.

Unless you have cats (I have farm cats that like to snack on my chicken food and wild birds) just leave her be. The other chickens won't be stupid enough to mess with them. Even my farm cats learned quick that it wasn't worth being curious through the fence. So much so that when I incubated some eggs the cats were curious until they saw what was making the birdy noises and then they split. A mama hen isn't something to mess with.
