I have a Production Red that went broody- I know unlikely but this is the second one to do it. She had 10 eggs, 2 have hatched (she collected them over a 2-3 day period. 2 have hatched and are walking around, but there are 8 eggs left. 1 is pipped, the others have no sign. This afternoon she decided to take the chicks for a stroll (we have her in a 6x8 run with a large wooden box with shaving, food etc). She has pooed in the box, ON THE EGGS! Maybe this is why PR make bad broodies-
Anyhow I wiped the really messy eggs off, but she is still not returning. What should I do? Figure that's it? Wait for her to set back? Put the eggs in an incubator and hope they hatch?
HELP!

BTW it's in the 90s here, so the eggs won't get that cold...

If the eggs are supposed to be hatching / pipping and she is not setting on them, I would get them in the incubator asap and get the humidity up .... you can try putting any hatched chicks back under her at night.

So here's the update. I had a borrowed incubator, so I fired it up and transferred the eggs. In just a couple of hours we had a new baby chick hatch, I have another pip, but that's been there since before the move. there is no change in it, so it might not have made it. I'm leaving the others for a couple of days to see what happens. The hatch was going to be extended, so we might still have some more. I candled one to see and it was filled with a chick but no movement was detected.

leave the eggs in incubator for a couple more days and place the hatching chicks under hen at night only. Place them under the hen when they would normally be ready to leave the nest with their mother.
