Hi There,
Our broody sat on a clutch of fertile eggs we bought that didn't end up hatching. So, two nights ago, we placed some day-olds we bought under her, and she has taken them in. But she is not getting out of the nest with them to eat. The chicks are getting up to eat and drink, but she just sits there. The whole time she was broody, we had to manually get her up and out to eat, drink, etc. I am wondering if we need to do the same now. The last time we did this, the hen got up and out on her own throughout, so I am not sure what to do. Any guidance?
Thank you!

Yes sometimes not all eggs hatch. Those are the environmental factors that also happen to wild birds, whether the eggs were exposed to the heat or have been stored for a very long time.
Most birds knows how long they are to sit on their eggs. Thats why Pigeons never hatch ostrich eggs. Maybe the eggs for Pigeons might be too big, and take longer than their usual time.

She's not ready, she will come out.
When we sneak up chicks under a broody hen, we usually do it at night. She'll accept them but won't leave the nest until she realizes that her eggs are gone. If the is eggs under her, remove them. Put the food close by and water.
She be the mother to her innocent childrens and soon take them to the real world.

Best wishes ✨ 🌻

Pigeons also won't sit on ostrich eggs because the eggs are bigger than the bird
