broody hen off the nest for anhour

How long can a broody be off the nest? My two girls left an hour ago and don't look like they have any plans of going back on. We are on day 12 and day 4....12 eggs.

I sure don't want to lose them

I would put them back on, they might need reminding.

These are not the kind of chickens I see everyone here talking about. They do not sit in my lap, they are very flighty girls (leghorns). They will come when I feed but if I try to get near them they run, very quickly I might add.

How hot is in in the coop?

My coop is HOT right now and mom just took off (see my other thread) she's done it often - but I'm worried now cause baby is PIPPING and ZIPPING.

My coop is 101 right now.... I have two broody's and they've both left in the afternoon's for long periods of time, but its SO hot that it doesn't really matter - and I'm sure they KNOW.

With a temp of 101 in the coop, I would think everything is fine. That's where the temp would be if they were in an incubator.
