We are raising our first flock of Buff Orpingtons. We now have a brooder that started out with only 2 - 3 eggs in the beginning, but now she has amassed a total of 11 eggs! She is a 4 - 5 month old hen, nothing really wrong with her. But what I really want to know is , will broody hens steal other eggs, or is she laying a whole lot ofeggs?

Once a hen goes broody, she stops laying eggs. Other hens are laying in her nest. Since it takes 21 days for an egg to hatch, you have eggs under her that will not hatch at the same time. I suggest you read the linked thread and get back with any questions.

My young leghorn has 8 babies under her wings..however not one is "hers" but she's Mom to all.She didn't steal the eggs just sat on the ones left in the nest. All hatched and doing great
