Broody hen

I have a hen a buff orp, and every time I look in the coop she is in the buckt(nest). I removed the eggs under her twice and she wasnt happy. then one day I moved an egg and she pushed it back under her.

Does this mean she is brooding?

With my limited knowledge and what I gound searching the site I think maybe.

So last week I seperated her with a production red rooster, only rooster I have. Since that time she has laid 3 eggs in her nest but I have never seen her sit on it. Its not a bucket like before. Is she possible done brooding or still but I dont she her?

also can a buff orp and production red reproduce?

If she's not sitting on the eggs anymore, she's not broody anymore. Maybe it was the move, or maybe she just wasn't enough 'into it'. No way to tell. She would be on them virtually 24/7 if she were genuinely broody, though.

For future reference, you don't need a rooster with her when she's getting broody and are probably better off without -- a hen will remain fertile for DEFINITELY 7-10 days after last being with a roo, and really her eggs will remain fertile although less reliably so for several weeks thereafter.

Yes, any two breeds of chicken can reproduce together, including BO and production Red
