I wasn't sure how it was spelled... That's just how I assumed it was spelled.... I guess I was wrong.... So it's merry and pippin not Mary.....that seemed kinda weird a guy would b named Mary lol...

I'm back! The chicks are do'in really good and they have a good mama. At least she seems le a good mama. It's her first hatch tho... Anyways, merry looks like a California white. She has a little black spot on her back, it's soo cute! But....sadly today isn't such a good day.......we ended up losing a chicken sometime this weekend....it was my sisters. Her name was Muffin and she was a little golden laced Wyandotte and she was a bit of a *****, but it's still sad....the way I found out is that one of my sisters hens was carrying a patch of chicken skin around in her mouth trying to eat it.....ugh, it was gross... :( That was when I realized that all the feathers on the ground were from the same bird.... I hadn't thought anything of all the feathers since r birds r molting....

Just to update- Spring was actually only half Cochin banty. Her dad was my RIR roo. She turned out to look like a lemon blue. I want to hatch some more of her mom's eggs, but she won't lay!! All five chicks turned out to be hens. I haven't gotten any eggs from them yet, but hopefully soon. The other broody hen, Summer, ended up hatching out two beautiful chicks, a rooster and a hen. The rooster has been crowing for a while now. Frazzle has gone on to hatch another clutch of eggs, hatching all 3, previously refrigerated, eggs and gave me 2 cochin banty cross hens and a BSL rooster. She is a great mother(Frazzle) as she doesn't attack me, doesn't break from broodiness easily( I moved her in the middle of the day once and she sat like right away), lets me hold chicks, lets me candle her eggs and sit by her, and she also stays with her chicks for sometimes over 2 and a half months. Sh just now stopped mothering the chicks she hatched the end of August I think, maybe early September...whenever school starts. So yeah, just a little update since I felt like it..

Sounds like things are going well over there! I lost my both of my best broodies to a predator this fall, some of my very first chickens, so it is nice to hear of other good mothers doing well. I miss mine.
